Here’s an update from Brad Phillips, President of Persecution Project Foundation (PPF), our partners on the ground in Jach [Jaac], Sudan, where we are helping build clean water wells. PPF’s goal is to build 100 wells in the Jach area by the end of 2010.
Out of the 62 completed wells, Mocha Club and African Leadership have funded 30 of them so far!
Thank you for your sacrifice.
And now for the update in Brad’s words…
Each well is a major victory in the fight against water-borne illnesses, which account for more than 80 percent of the diseases in Africa. And each well in Jaac is providing safe and clean drinking water for more than 1,000 people who would otherwise face death by starvation or water-related illnesses.
Our goal is to complete 100 freshwater wells before the year’s end, so that more than 100,000 people and their livestock will have access to clean water —for the rest of their lives.
Please don’t stop. We need your continued help to get to 100 wells by the end of 2010.
Apart from the financial challenge, there are a few obstacles that remain in our way, including weather conditions, which make already bad roads very hard to access. There is also heightened insecurity related to the ongoing war in Darfur.
Last week, the organization Samaritan’s Purse had three of its personnel kidnapped in Darfur, including one American. And you may recall that PPF’s truck, “Mercy,” was hijacked recently in Southern Sudan. So, please keep these situations in your thoughts and prayers.
Here’s how YOU can help build more wells in Sudan…
- If you’re a Mocha Club member supporting the Clean Water project monthly, log in to your account and invite as many friends as you can to join you! Just $7 can provide clean water for 7 Africans for a year!
- Go to our Emergency Needs page and give a one-time donation to the Clean Water project.
- Run a campaign at your school, church, among your friends, family, and neighbors to raise money for Clean Water in Sudan.
