NEW! LIMITED-EDITION : Ethiopia Necklace

The Mocha Club store has a beautifully new addition to it’s inventory : the Ethiopia Necklace.

Last month, a team from Nashville traveled to Ethiopia and Kenya on the #MCJourney2016. While in the capital city of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa, the team stopped by to visit our project partners at Women at Risk. These women formerly worked on the streets in desperate circumstances to take care of themselves and their families. Women at Risk came alongside them to provide food, care, and ultimately, a new way of life. One of the opportunities of employment is through jewelry making.

When you buy the Ethiopia Necklace, you provide counseling & job skills training to a woman in the program. You are also helping to support her family through your purchase.  Made from re-purposed artillery & scrap metal, you can take a piece of Africa with you.

This is a very limited-edition piece with only a few in inventory. Purchase this exclusive piece today and share the story of Mocha Club with a friend.

Get this necklace as a FREE gift when you join the Mocha Club at $18/month!

19 Women and Counting…

We are happy to share that 19 women have completed the Women at Risk program in Nazareth, Ethiopia this past December!  They have gone all the way through the process of counseling, nutrition education, and job-skills training and have even started their own small businesses. To prepare for the responsibility of owning a business, the women were counseled in goal setting, work ethics, and time management.

All of the women also received medical support and health care for their different needs. Not only do the women receive medical treatment, but their children (24 in all) have received the same care and attention.  Along with the children that were already part of the program, 49 children were provided with school fees, school uniforms, and education materials. While all of these children receive tutoring education about a fourth of them receive special counseling, as well.

And the good news continues…

Nineteen NEW women have just been recruited and have started the program!  These women have entered the structured counseling program where they participate in devotions, group discussions, individual counseling sessions, and skills training. With each quarter and with your support, we see women enter back in society with dignity and skills to make a better life for themselves, their families, and their communities. And with each graduate, there leaves room for more women at risk to enter into a place of safety and rehabilitation. We can not do this valuable work without your support. Thank you!

Sevenly + Mocha Club

We are excited that Sevenly has asked to partner with us again this year! They have been inspired by the work we do at Lizulu Orphan Care project in Malawi and they’ve created designs to raise support for the children.

Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world with more than a million orphans primarily due to HIV/AIDS. Lizulu is a rural Malawian community where the average family lives on less than $0.75 a day. It is home to approximately 3,000 orphans living with limited or no support.

Go check out the Sevenly site all week long – for each shirt sold, they will donate $7 to the Mocha Club and Lizulu Orphan Care!

7 Days of Christmas : MOCHA CLUB + SEVENLY

Mocha Club is celebrating 7 Days of Christmas with Sevenly by celebrating Education!  During the entire week of December 1st, for every “Education is Freedom” t-shirt sold, $7 will be donated to Mocha Club and our Education programs.  Gift yourself and give the gift of education to our friends in Africa!

$7 provides 2 two students an education and two meals a day

$7 provides all expenses and meals for a student to attend their field trip

$7 provides internet to a child for the school year

$7 pays for a students’ exams taken at the end of every year (standardized state exams to pass to the next year)

Shop “Love By Design” + support Mocha Club!

We are always so grateful when businesses, bloggers, and other organizations want to partner with Mocha Club and share our passion for Africa and it’s people.  This month, we are partnering with Love By Design as they share Mocha Club to their audience!

Valerie and Chelsea are the two ladies behind this beautiful shop and we are excited to work with them!

We met Valerie and Chelsea from Love By Design at the Influence Conference this year and their hearts are full of a passion to support non-profits all around the world.  This month, they have decided to support Mocha Club and a portion of all their profits for the month will be donated to Mocha Club! They created two exclusive print designs that will be available on their store. These phrases share our sentiment that we need Africa and we learn so much from our African friends.

Last week at the Influence Conference in Indianapolis, we revealed our new product for the Fall to all the bloggers and influencers…the “Giving Is Lovely” tee!

Making the Coffee Scarf…

We showed you in last week’s #mochaclubexp Webisode the exclusive scarf we’ve created along with fashionABLE… handmade in Ethiopia with our partner Ellilta Products, and dyed with Ethiopian coffee!

Here’s a little step-by-step of the process…

Matt trying to learn the weaving process on the looms (we’ll leave that up to the women from now on!)

Meanwhile, the coffee beans are roasted & ground by hand.

Then the finished scarves are soaked in big tubs of coffee

After being dyed for about an hour, they’re rinsed and hung on the line to dry…

…and you get the soft, beautiful, finished product!
(because of the inconsistency of dying with coffee there are 2 shades of this scarf — “light roast” & “dark roast”!!)

You can get the scarf for $30 in the Mocha Club Store, or get it for FREE by joining (or inviting a friend to join) Mocha Club as a monthly member!
